Atlas make 60-80 tph asphalt batching plant consists of many components make it complete. It is important that all the components work in tandem to ensure smooth production of hot mix asphalt. Below listed are major components of the equipment.

Asphalt batch plant – cold feeder bins:

Feeder bins are four in number and each hopper of capacity 11 tons. There is one vibrating motor fitted on the sand bin. Each of the feeding bins will have conveyor below driven by variable speed drive motor. These belts discharge their contents into a conveyor belt. Below then after passing through vibrating screen. They are taken to the drying drum. There is a separate conveyor belt to take the aggregates to the drying drum.

Asphalt batch plant – Drying drum:

Drying drum is one of the most important component. The efficiency and success of asphalt mixing plant is dependent on the drying drum. It is a drum unit which is equipped with a burner system for heating of the virgin aggregates. It may seam simple but the design of the flights combined with the burner efficiency make a drying drum efficient. The aggregates will enter from one end and they will be travelling towards the burner which is on the opposite end. On their way to the other end of the drum the aggregates will be lifted. This action of the drying drum along with the high temperature inside the drying chamber will thoroughly heat the aggregates. If the aggregates are not heated properly then its mixing with asphalt will not be proper resulting in bad roads. As the aggregates enter the drying drum, dust will be sucked by the bag filter for pollution control measure. Aggregates will be moving towards the burner’s flame. They will come out of the drum to be discharged into the bucket elevator.

The standard burner is compatible with diesel or LDO. It is a very fuel efficient unit and compliments the drying drum. It is modulating type burner with flame failure detection. It is maximum capacity of 550 liters per hour. Burner which is compatible with FO or natural gas supplied.

Asphalt batch plant – Dust collector and bag filter for pollution control

Pollution control units are very important for asphalt batch mix plants. They will ensure that dust and harmful gases are kept under control. Bag filters will suck all the dust and harmful gases from the drying drum. This is to ensure that dust or harmful gases. It is not released to the environment. Bag filter has numerous bags inside. which will allow gases to pass through them. As the gases pass from one end of the bag filter to the other end. They will be made to pass through the bags. This process will ensure that the dust and gases. It will be trapped on the outside of the bags. The gas which passes on the other side of the bag filter is relatively clean. Bag cleaning mechanism there to ensure. The bags are timely cleaned and keep its performance high.

Dry dust collector is present just before the bag filter and between the bag house and drying drum. The dry dust collector will trap the heavy dust particles. It is not allow the same to pass through the bag house. Dry dust collector plays an important role in managing the heavy dust particles. It is help in increasing the life and efficiency of bag filters.

Asphalt batch plant – Hot aggregate bucket elevator

Bucket elevator starts from the outlet of the drying drum. It will all the heated aggregates and transfer the same to the top of tower unit. The most top part of the tower unit is vibrating screen. This is screening unit receives the hot aggregates. Bucket elevator is fully enclosed to prevent heat loss.

Asphalt batch plant – Mineral filler feeding system

Filler feeding mechanism comprises of a feeding hopper at the bottom. A screw conveyor and retention as well as weighing hoppers. The filler material has to be fed at the filler hopper. It is taken to the retention hopper by a screw conveyor. Retention hopper will hold the filler material before discharging small amount to the weighing hopper. Weighing hopper will weigh the filler and then let the same into the mixing unit.

Asphalt batch plant – Vibrating screen

Vibrating screen is the top most part of the tower of asphalt plant. It is usually 4 deck and each screen has different mesh size. This is to ensure. That aggregates are separated on basis of their size. The screens are of sufficient size to ensure. That uninterrupted flow of aggregates are achieved.

Asphalt batch plant – Hot bins

Hot bins are of sufficient capacity to store the separated aggregates after the screening. Each aggregates are stored in a separate compartment after the screening process. Hot bins are of sufficient size. Aggregates are stored in hot bins for short time before they will be discharged.

Asphalt batch plant – Aggregate weighing mechanism

Aggregates from the hot bins are weighed one by one. This unit is suspended above the mixing unit on 4 load cells. After the weighing of all 4 aggregates. They are discharges into the mixing unit.

Asphalt batch plant – Filler retention and weighing hopper

As the filler is transferred from the screw conveyor it will be stored in filler retention hopper. This retention hopper will temporarily store the filler material before discharging into the filler weighing hopper. Filler weighing hopper is hanging on load cells. It will weigh the filler material and then discharge the same into the mixing unit.

Asphalt batch plant – Bitumen weighing hopper

Bitumen weighing hopper is fully insulated and suspended on load cells. It will receive liquid bitumen from the tanks below via a transfer pump. Bitumen is weighed and then discharged into the mixing zone.

Asphalt batch plant – Twin shaft mixing unit

Twin shaft mixing unit type of mixing unit. It is one of the important part of the asphalt mixing plant. It has got two shafts on which arms and tips are fitted. The mixing unit is jacketed and fitted with liner plates on the inner body. The arms, tips and liner plates will last longer. The arms and tips are easy replaceable and the liner plates. It is a tried and tested unit for homogenous mixing of the material. The gate opens to the full length of the mixer. This allows quick discharge of the material.

Asphalt batch plant – Bitumen tanks

Bitumen tanks supplied by Atlas come in two types: direct heating or indirect heating. Depending on the customer’s requirement and choice the bitumen tanks. It will be supplied. Direct heating tanks come with burner fitted on each tank. Indirect heating tanks come with heat transfer coils and a thermic oil heater. This thermic heater is connected to the heat transfer coils. It will keep circulating hot oil so as to keep the bitumen in liquid condition. There is a bitumen transfer pump. which will pump the liquid bitumen into the bitumen weighing hopper on the tower unit.

Asphalt batch plant – Fuel storage tanks

Fuel storage tanks are supplied for storage of diesel. In case if two fuels have to be used two fuel tanks will be supplied with the plant. These tanks will supply fuel for the dryer burner.
